It is actually very simple. I used Picasa. You simply click "Hold" on the imagines you want in the collage, then you click the Collage button. A screen pops up that has several options. The first is Type. This type is referred to as Picture Pile. There is also Picture Grid, Contact Sheet, and Multi-Exposure. Next under Options you can select a white, gray, or black background, or to be a bit different you can have one of the pictures actually display as the background. The last options is Location, which simply lets it know where you want it stored.

The minus is that it decides which pic goes where. You can play with it a bit trying to change order of the photos you held, drop or add a photo, to give it more the look you want, etc., but it is pretty limited in that regard.
